Latest news on fibre optic infrastructure in Kenya: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information & Communication, Bitange Ndemo, confirmed yesterday to the Kenya Business Process Outsourcing & Contact Centre Society that the East Africa Marine System (TEAMS) is on track and will be completed by June 2009. And by August 2008, the national terrestrial cable will be completed and will be ready to be hooked into the undersea cable once it is completed.
We are very optimistic that despite the recent political events, the government will continue to provide strong leadership in establishing a fibre optic network as quickly as possible and making Kenya a major hub in the global outsourcing industry.

Cant wait to be surfing the net at high speed from the comfort of my home, the question is, how fast will the prices fall?
Fiber opitc must grow everywhere. it was slow in afric. happy to see that fiber optic cables are being laid in african countries also.
This is a very welcome move. It has actually been long overdue. It saddens me however, to note that Kenya with all the trained people it claims to have, can be part of the only region in the world still not connected…
Anyway, what is of great concern is the speed at which end-users will access the high speed connections – affordably.
Our only hope is that new players in the ICT market and stiff competition amongst them will work favourably for the end user.
Can’t wait for the good days ahead!
fiber optics is getting around in all parts of the world in a faster pace ever than before
I have seen them digging the trenches to carry the fiber cables. Will they cover all parts of the Kenya even the marginalised areas?
